What a day! We got up early(ish) this morning and headed out to Guildford in Surrey. Guildford is my absolute favourite place to shop. It’s the one place I can find House of Fraser, Ted Baker, Lush, Wagamama and MAC (in HOF) all in one place. In the summer it is beautiful because a lot of the shops are outside on the cobbled streets and in the winter it’s nice because there are roasted chestnuts and plenty of places to grab a warm seat and a coffee.
Today was inbetween. It was nice enough to have to wear sunglasses but chilly enough to need a light coat.
Shopping is one of my all time favourite things to do, it’s very much a hobby for me. When I don’t have any money I just appreciate being able to window shop. I love looking at bags I can’t afford, trying samples of hand cream and spritzing myself with luxurious scents.
I had a few goals in mind when I went out today, I wanted to get some lip gloss, a replacement for my eye shadow that I used the last of this morning (details to follow), a pair of sunglasses and a purse that the boyfriend had offered to treat me too. I have a gorgeous pair of D&G sunglasses but I wanted something different so I was on a mission.
The first goal was easy enough, I marched off to MAC, which can be found in House of Fraser and starting sampling the various lipglosses on the back of my hand. I knew what I wanted, a pink with a gold shimmer, so I was really excited to find Nymphette tinted lipglass. It’s absolutely perfect and £12.50 for 4.8g.
The lipsticks had also caught my eye and I’ve never found my “perfect everyday shade” so I had a play and discovered these two beauties…
Plink! and Creme De La Femme. I am currently wearing Creme De La Femme and I’m totally, head over heels, in love… smitten.
I also needed a new Melon pigment so I picked on of those up too. I’ve just checked the swatch on the website and it looks NOTHING like it so I’m not going to post it. It’s a golden pinky colour, more gold than pink. It’s beautiful anyway. I’ve managed to find a picture that does accurately show the colour of Melon…
I also noticed today that Bobbi Brown still sell their Pink Quartz shimmer brick and at £30.50 it’s a tad expensive but I highly recommend it. I’m wearing it today and I just love it.
Something else I tried and loved today but did not buy (because I currently have far too many perfumes and have to finish one before I can buy another) is the new Issey Miyake L’eau D’Issey Florale. It has that lovely Issey Miyake scent… kind of woody, a little like the sea but with a thick rose scent over the top. It didn’t last very long on my skin though.
What else? Oh yes, I treated myself to a new silk scarf because it was an absolute bargain. An Aspinal of London stand has popped up out of nowhere in HOF and as I was walking past the silk scarves caught my eye. I looked at the price and had to do a double take. £49! I was so sure it should have been £149 but nope, £49… the one I chose was the best by far.
The picture does not do it justice. The border is the most amazing shade of orange and the butterflies just pop. The staff at the stand were so nice and friendly and the packaging is lovely. It came wrapped in tissue paper with an Aspinal of London sticker on the top and then inside a box which is so well made out of very thick card and then in a huge, beautiful bag with a ribbon. I’ve swooned over AoL online for years, I’ve never seen it in the flesh and now I have I think I will be a regular visitor.
They also had this bag (the Berkeley) in cream leather but it is well out of my price range at £495.
So there you have it. There were lots of other lovely things on offer but that was all I could afford for this month. The sunglasses were a complete let down. When I got my D&Gs I felt such excitement and lust for them that I just HAD to have them and I wanted to feel this again before shelling out another £200. When I find the right pair, I know there will be fireworks, until then I will have to wait.
